Lumbar Facet Injections

Lumbar facet injections are used for treatment of low back pain. This pain is caused by degeneration and arthritis of the facet joints (joints in your back).

Lumbar facet injections are performed under fluoroscopic guidance (X-ray imaging). A small needle is inserted under x-ray imaging to lie within the facet joint. Steroid and local anesthetic are then injected into these small joints. The local anesthetic provides diagnostic information while the steroid reduces inflammation and irritation.
